General Questions
1. What is Askivio AI Engine?
Askivio AI Engine is an AI-powered chatbot plugin built specifically for WordPress. It helps businesses answer visitor questions automatically, using information stored in their own Knowledge Base.
The chatbot can also guide visitors toward relevant actions such as making a reservation, contacting your company, purchasing a product, registering for a service, or opening a support page.
2. How does Askivio AI Engine work?
Askivio combines your business information with artificial intelligence. You add relevant content to the Knowledge Base, index it, and configure how the chatbot should respond.
When a visitor asks a question, Askivio searches the indexed information, sends the relevant context securely to Askivio Cloud, and generates a natural response in the visitor’s language.
3. Do I need an OpenAI API key?
No. Customers do not need to create an OpenAI account or enter an OpenAI API key.
AI access is included with the active Askivio subscription and is provided securely through Askivio Cloud. Your private technical credentials are not displayed or shared with customers.
4. Do I need technical or programming skills?
No coding knowledge is required. Askivio is configured directly from the WordPress administration area.
You can control the chatbot’s content, behavior, appearance, welcome message, language handling, call-to-action and other settings through a visual interface.
5. What types of businesses can use Askivio?
Askivio can be used by hotels, restaurants, online stores, service providers, clinics, real estate agencies, educational organizations, travel companies, local businesses and many other types of WordPress websites.
Because the answers are based on your own Knowledge Base, the chatbot can be adapted to almost any industry.
6. Does Askivio work on mobile devices?
Yes. The Askivio chat widget is responsive and designed to work on desktop computers, tablets and smartphones.
Its position, appearance and dimensions can be adjusted to match your website and provide a comfortable experience on different screen sizes.
7. Does Askivio work with any WordPress theme?
Askivio is designed to work with most properly developed WordPress themes and common page builders, including websites created with Elementor.
Compatibility can still be affected by heavily customized themes, caching systems, security rules or JavaScript optimization plugins. If you encounter a conflict, contact Askivio Support.
8. What are the technical requirements?
Askivio AI Engine requires:
- a self-hosted WordPress website;
- WordPress 5.2 or newer;
- PHP 7.4 or newer;
- an active Askivio license;
- outbound HTTPS connectivity to Askivio Cloud and Freemius.
For security and performance, we recommend using currently supported WordPress and PHP versions.
Installation and Knowledge Base
1. How do I install Askivio AI Engine?
After purchasing or starting a trial, you will receive access to the plugin and your license through Freemius.
To install it:
- Download the Askivio AI Engine ZIP package.
- Open your WordPress administration area.
- Go to Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin.
- Upload the ZIP file and select Install Now.
- Activate the plugin.
- Enter or activate your Askivio license when requested.
- Open Askivio Chat to configure your assistant.
Do not extract the ZIP file before uploading it to WordPress.
2. What is the Knowledge Base?
The Knowledge Base contains the information Askivio should use when answering visitors.
It can include company information, services, products, facilities, opening hours, policies, delivery terms, booking instructions, frequently asked questions, contact details and other information relevant to your customers.
3. Does Askivio automatically read my entire website?
Askivio primarily uses the content that you add and index in its Knowledge Base. This gives you more control over what the chatbot is allowed to communicate.
You should not assume that every page or recent website change is automatically available to the chatbot. Important information should be added to the Knowledge Base and reindexed after it is changed.
4. How do I prepare a good Knowledge Base?
Use clear, accurate and well-structured information. Include the questions customers ask most frequently and provide direct answers.
Avoid contradictory information, expired offers and unnecessary marketing language. If prices, schedules or policies change regularly, review the Knowledge Base frequently and index it again after every important update.
5. What happens after I update the Knowledge Base?
After making significant changes, use the indexing option in Askivio Chat. This prepares the updated content so it can be retrieved efficiently during conversations.
Until the content is reindexed, the chatbot may continue using the previously indexed version.
6. Can I control how strictly Askivio follows my content?
Yes. Askivio includes configurable answer behavior and Knowledge Base enforcement options.
A stricter configuration is recommended when accuracy is more important than general conversation, especially for policies, prices, reservations, medical information, legal information or technical specifications.
7. Can the chatbot answer questions that are not covered by the Knowledge Base?
This depends on the selected answer behavior. Askivio can be configured to use only your Knowledge Base or to provide more flexible responses when appropriate.
For business-critical information, we recommend instructing the chatbot to acknowledge when information is unavailable and direct the visitor to a member of your team.
Compatibility can still be affected by heavily customized themes, caching systems, security rules or JavaScript optimization plugins. If you encounter a conflict, contact Askivio Support.
8. Can Askivio make mistakes?
Like any AI system, Askivio can occasionally misunderstand a question or generate an incomplete response.
A clear Knowledge Base, strict answer instructions and regular testing significantly improve accuracy. Important decisions, contractual conditions, medical advice, legal advice and financial information should always be confirmed by a qualified person.
9. Does Askivio support multiple languages?
Yes. Askivio analyzes the visitor’s message and can respond in the same language.
You do not need to create a separate chatbot for every language. However, results are usually most accurate when important business information and specialized terminology are included clearly in the Knowledge Base.
10. Can I customize the chatbot’s appearance?
Yes. You can customize elements such as:
- chatbot name and subtitle;
- welcome message;
- colors and gradients;
- logo and avatar;
- launcher icon and text;
- chat window size and position;
- input placeholder;
- call-to-action label and destination;
- selected visual behavior.
This allows the widget to match your website’s visual identity.
11. Can I add a booking, purchase or contact button?
Yes. You can configure a call-to-action that directs visitors to a relevant URL, such as a booking engine, contact page, product page, registration form or support page.
The button appears according to the configuration and context defined for the chatbot.
12. Does Askivio include live chat with a human operator?
Askivio AI Engine is currently an automated AI chatbot. It does not include a built-in human live-chat inbox or automatic transfer to a live operator.
You can, however, direct visitors to your contact page, telephone number, email address, booking system or another external support channel.

When the monthly allowance is reached, new AI responses may be temporarily limited until the usage period resets or the subscription is upgraded.
The administration area displays plan and usage information so you can monitor consumption before reaching the limit.
6. What does “unlimited messages” mean?
Enterprise plans may include unlimited messages subject to fair-use rules, infrastructure protection and service security measures.
Automated abuse, reselling access, artificial traffic, denial-of-service activity or use outside the intended website chatbot service is not permitted.

Your license and subscription are managed through Freemius. After changing your plan, synchronize the license in WordPress if the updated benefits are not displayed immediately.

3. Is my OpenAI credential visible to customers?

4. What information is sent when a visitor asks a question?

6. Is Askivio GDPR compliant?
Askivio provides technical features that can support responsible data handling, including consent-aware conversation recording and configurable logging.
